Switch cable had been damaged beyond repair, and the dwelling had been recently decorated so installed wireless light switch. It works from kinetic energy from switch to receiver at light fitting. Wireless switches are still in their relatively early stages and off the shelf at your local wholesaler they will generally be like a paddle switch – which are quite large and not in keeping with normal sized light switches around the home. Searched online and found a manufacturer from Italy who make wireless grid switches, the grid module clips into a metal grid plate then a front plate is fitted to the grid and hey presto! looks like any other switch 😃. At the light fitting the pendant part needs to be big enough to accommodate the wireless receiver. In this case the clients and I went to the nearest lighting wholesaler with the receiver and tried fitting the receiver in various ones until we found one that fit and the client was happy with the light fitting. I also recommended one with a metal housing, in this case chrome, reason being that metal is conductive so more prone to transmitting the signal whereas plastic is an insulator and may block the signal. The client was very happy with the outcome and so was I – a first for me and sure in the future there will be many more, especially in places with exposed stonework, they even do a dimmer version! Hope this helps anyone who is looking for a similar solution, feel free to get in touch if you need any help
